How to Dissassemble a Single-Action Siphon Feed Airbrush

The most important part of taking up painting with an Airbrush is the cleaning and care for it. Taking time to properly clean your airbrush is what will be the defining attribute to a nice clean airbrush painting.

The saying used to be “your painting will only be as good as your equipment,”  when it is in fact, ” your art will only be as good as how clean your equipment is.”

We always hear that people have an airbrush but, it is in the garage collecting dust because ‘I couldn’t get it to work “. This prompted me to create a step by step on how to properly take apart your brush, clean it and how to put it back together. Here are the steps I have created for you below.

When removing parts, set aside in order, from right to left and please refer to the Parts diagram when re-assembling your airbrush

Remove the color jar underneath the brush

Using a spanner wrench, pry off the safety clip

Push the fluid nozzle back to slightly un-snap the brass needle ( the needle has a flat notch that lines up with the flat notch on the Airbrush body.

Begin to completely unscrew the brass needle from the steel fluid nozzle. Then using the airbrush cleaning brushes and airbrush cleaner, clean the inside and outside of the needle of any visible paint.

Remove the fluid nozzle and clean the inside and outside using the cleaning brushes.

Next, unscrew the air cap at the tip of the airbrush. Clean this, also using the brushes and cleaner.

**Now that your brush parts are clean, we can re-assemble it in reverse

Screw on the Air cap and slide in the steel fluid nozzle into the opening at the bottom of the air cap.

Slide the brass needle into the fluid nozzle and align the flat cut away with the flat cut away on the Black airbrush body.

Begin to turn the fluid nozzle clockwise and it should thread onto the needle.

Lastly, snap on the small C-clamp between the needle and fluid nozzle.

Now you can replace the paint jar

Congratulations! Your airbrush is now clean and ready to create magic!
